Ellen Arvayo

MERIAL- Senior Sales Representative New Mexico/Colorado

“I have been a representative to the Animal Hospital of Los Lunas for nearly 6 years, and I have had the pleasure to work with Ryan for the last 3.5 years. I can honestly attest that in my 15 years in the veterinary/animal health industry, it is remarkable what he has done with the practice. It is a massive difference from what it was like prior to his arrival. Merck Animal Health strives to create a cooperative business partnership with each of the hospitals that it serves. Ryan is such a pleasure to work with, as I have dealt with less passionate, less knowledgeable business owners and practice managers.  He is incredibly engaging and friendly- always treating my time with the utmost respect.

In regards to his ability to integrate our products into his practice, he has done an outstanding job. When he started there were 4 different Heartworm preventative products offered by this business. He intuitively reduced that by half immediately. Receptive to our product research, and conducting research of his own, he motivated his staff to focus more on preventive medicine and they have seen a near double increase in their Heartworm preventive sales.

Ryan is an innovative professional, and will serve any place he works for with the same vigor.”

Craig Fischbach, MBA

Hill's Pet Nutrition- Veterinary Territory Manager New Mexico/Southern Colorado

" I have worked with Animal Hospital of Los Lunas for close to 4 years, and with Ryan for 3 of those years. In that time, I have watched this hospital transform into a well-organized, aesthetically pleasing, staff supportive, and growing practice. The practice has grown 153.8% with pet food sales during this same period and in the first quarter of 2015. It has been interesting to watch during my monthly visits, how Ryan has methodically improved this practice over time.

The first significant change I witnessed was with the physical rganization and aesthetics. This was accomplished on many levels. I watched as storage areas were cleaned and transformed into functional business spaces, clutter was reduced throughout, and every room in the clinic was  repainted, giving the clinic a fresh, clean, and updated appearance.

AAHA rules states:  “every pet every time”. Ryan changed exam sheets to remind the staff to ask clients what they feed and to recommend a diet. He also followed up with staff to make sure that the exam sheets are being used. To aid with staffs recommendations, Ryan does not hesitate to participate in promotions. Some promotions that we ran have multiple requirements for proof of purchase, etc. Every time Ryan had all of the required paperwork and tracking. As a business partner, it was always refreshing to be able to trust the requirements were completed.

When we first started the staff training to discuss pet nutrition and how this would help patients, the attention of the staff was off in other directions. They were respectful but disinterested. Fast forward 3 years and the entire staff at the most recent seminar was actively asking questions and giving examples of discussions that they have had with their clients and asking how to troubleshoot those discussions if there was an issue. Ryan was able to find ways to motivate the staff to want to be successful, through various incentive programs and communicating with the staff on what is important for the clinic.

In conclusion, while Ryan had an impact on multiple areas of the practice. The change that has stood out most is how Ryan has motivated the staff. There are many managers in the world, but there are very few that can truly get their employees motivated to accomplish goals and successfully help the business they work for.   I highly recommend Ryan and know he will be an asset to any organization he joins."

Patty Mugan

Animal Shelter Supervisor and Transfer Coordinator for Valencia County Animal Control in New Mexico

"The Valencia County Animal Shelter has worked with the Animal Hospital of Los Lunas over the years for different issues related to Animal Control investigations and basic exams. In the past 3 years we have worked very close with Ryan Van Otten at the clinic on a daily basis and that has greatly improved the well-being of the 6,500 animals we take in annually.

I was confident we made the right decision, after talking with Ryan in 2012, regarding what we would be needing from him, as well as the staff at the clinic, to accommodate several animals each week. They have always been professional and more than willing to help us continue to improve our shelter and this has made it possible for us to expand our transfer program and increase the amount of animals to be transferred out of state to rescues and adopted. Ryan has even set up a  PayPal account linked to their web page to make it possible for people to donate to the care of the shelter animals at the clinic that are sick or injured. We look forward to continuing to work with the Animal Hospital of Los Lunas for the needs of our shelter animals as well as my personal dogs."
