Kim Johnson
Groomer- Animal Hospital of Los Lunas April 2013 to 2015
"I have worked for the Animal Hospital of Los Lunas since April of 2013, as a 1099 employee, with Ryan Van Otten as my supervisor. I have seen in these two years an overall updating of the practice and the building. Ryan has been in a constant process of streamlining operations by obtaining state of the art equipment, changing employee tasks, and working on the computer systems. He has coordinated the remodel and reorganization of the building, making the work space much more efficient.
Ryan is always trying to make my job easier by creating an environment that works smoothly. He is always looking for new ways to grow my section of the business with creative advertising campaigns and ideas. I've seen the practice grow due to his professionalism and attention to detail. Clients are happy and return because of the care and customer service. Ryan has encouraged all the employees and is available if problems arise. He has created a work environment that has brought the employees together as a team."
Brittany Wood
Veterinary Assistnat- Animal Hospital of Los Lunas May 2013 to Septmber 2014
"I began as an intern in April 2013. As an intern, Ryan efficiently instructed me on how the practice ran and made it a comfortable environment to work in. After I was hired, Ryan clearly stated what was to be expected of me and consistently motivated me to improve my skills. He ran a professional practice and due to that, I saw the practice grow and gain more reliable clients. His management skills undoubtedly brought in more revenue.
My co-workers and I were always encouraged to address any concerns we had and were also able to freely express any ideas we had. He not only ran a proficient office, but also ran an enjoyable environment. I have full trust that Ryan would make a great addition to any workplace. His skills in management and customer service are unsurpassed by many. It was a pleasure being led by someone as knowledgeable as he."
Delainey Gallegos Halmayer
Receptionist and Veterinary Assistant- Animal Hospital of Los Lunas December 2009 to Present
“I have worked with the Animal Hospital of Los Lunas for a total of 6 years. I have worked with Ryan for the last 3 of those years. Ryan has improved every facet of the business since becoming practice manager. He has put his whole heart into managing and improving this business, and everyone who has worked with him can attest to that. He is constantly in great spirits and that personality is contagious. It makes working with him a really great experience. Ryan is always improving on the way the office is ran, and is always implementing new training. He does this however, collaboratively. He involves the team by probing us with questions and asking us what we need to improve our jobs, on a daily basis.
The major areas that have changed after Ryan arrived include: overall appearance of the business (inside and out), organization, upgrading of equipment, increased client care and concern, substantial positive improvements in employee care, scheduling, streamlined payroll, new incentive programs, regular staff meetings and educational seminars, and the implementation of promotions. It has been a pleasure and great learning experience working with Ryan. He is an inspiration and an awesome motivator, a great friend who truly cares about his employees.”
Larissa Baldonado
Independent Contractor- Animal Hospital of Los Lunas May 2012 to August 2013
"I have worked with Ryan VanOtten since May of 2012. Ryan gave me the opportunity to work at his families practice in a way that they had never done before. He hired me as an independent contractor since I had my own grooming clientele. Ryan is always open to suggestions and new ideas. When I started working at the Animal Hospital of Los Lunas things were a bit unorganized. Ryan was new to the practice as well and it didn’t take long before things started to turn around. His brilliant and creative mind changed the shop from being a plain, old school environment, to a modern, lively business. The practice itself had a better appeal to the eye as well as a cozy feeling with the pleasant staff .
Ryan kept the practice running smoothly and was always searching for ways to make operations run even better. He changed the computer system to be more user friendly, the telephone system, client charts, and appointment scheduling. Not only did he keep the business side running well but the needs of the animals was always on his mind. He created a safer environment for the animals in the boarding kennels, created a card and label system so the staff knew which animals were there for what service, and rearranged areas to make them more accessible.
Anytime I had a need, whether it was a suggestion or just needed to vent about something, Ryan’s door was always open. Since I was involved in the grooming side of the business most my concerns involved appointment scheduling, equipment needs, and supplies. He was also very accepting of using equipment that I thought was necessary to complete my job.
Ryan was a very fun person to work with. He is approachable and easy to talk to. He is a very motivating person and was a great leader of the business. Any business would greatly benefit by having Ryan on their team."

Logan Worden
Veterinary Technician- Animal Hospital of Los Lunas October 2014 to Present
"I have worked with Ryan for about six months. I haven't had much of a job history but I can honestly say that Ryan has been one of the best managers I have had. Even during the interview process he made me feel comfortable and I feel that is due to his professionalism and his ability to work extremely well with others. This is something that is important to me.
In the six months I have worked with Ryan, he has taken great pride in the family business. He is always thinking of new ways to improve the look and feel of the company, how we can introduce new products, and we can bring in more revenue without making cost unreasonable. I really feel the new renovations to the building has been a big selling point to the clients and I have heard many positive things from them in regards to the improvements.
Ryan's willingness to listen to thoughts and suggestions from the staff has been something I have never encountered from pervious employers and it's something I have come to respect and enjoy. He is always eager to listen to new ideas that could help improve the company (any where from a new dust pan to a whole new filing system). There have been many times throughout my day he has come up to me and asked me how I'm doing, what's been going on throughout the day, and how he can make it better (if possible). Ryan has no obligation to do so but him doing so makes me respect him more and more. His ability to stay on top of the needs list at all times makes everyone's job much easier, as well. Never for a moment did I feel my feelings or ideas weren't being considered and to me, that is very important.
Communication is very important to me and I don't feel as though Ryan has ever lacked in that department. He always kept everyone up to date on any new medications, vaccines, or new tools he was brining into the clinic. He always made sure all the staff was on the same page at all times which always makes things easier among the employees. There has never been a day, under Ryan's management, I didn't know what s going on or felt I was left out of the loop. Ryan being able to communicate things to me has always made me feel confident in my work and my ability to communicate things back to the client/ Doc as needed. His ability to communicate professionally with clients has been of great virtue and it's something that they respect and greatly appreciate, as do I.
The past six months has been such an amazing experience for me. I feel I have grown so much while working for the Animal Hospital and this is something I have taken great pride in. Ryan has taught me to take charge and vocalize my concerns and needs. Ryan took a chance hiring me, fresh out of school, and I couldn't be more grateful that he did so. Not a single day has gone by where I haven't felt appreciated or needed. I love my job and all the people I work with. Ryan is very intuitive during his hiring process and he has really put together a great team."
